Portrait of Maggie

This is a commissioned painting, shown in two stages. The first image shows the initial set of washes laid in. The effect is spontaneous and loose. The second image is the finished piece. There is always something nice about the first washes that is lost once the subsequent layers are added. Even so, I was able to retain the ethereal nature of the cat, and am pleased with the final result.

I have been owned by cats for years, so I am well-practised in essense of cat. You've found it, captured it perfectly.

When you speak of the difference between the initial wash and the final painting, I think of the difference between the raw, speed-writing, close-to-the-soul first draft of a poem or a story and the final version. The first draft is always more dear.
